New robotic technology featured at Community Hospital North

Indianapolis, IN---Community Hospital North has joined an elite group of hospitals nationwide that now feature the latest surgical robotic technology called the Intuitive Surgical da Vinci Xi System.

The da Vinci Xi System has broader capabilities than prior generations of the da Vinci System. It can be used across a wide spectrum of minimally-invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for complex, multi-quadrant surgeries. These advances will be particularly beneficial in colon cases, where a surgeon must access different quadrants of the body.

According to Shekar Narayanan, M.D., a colon and rectal surgeon practicing at Community Hospital North, “This is the technology that colorectal surgeons have been waiting for and have needed for robotic surgery to benefit patients with colon cancer and disease. With the ability of this technology to access all four quadrants of the patient’s abdomen, the robot can be docked one time and the entire procedure can be done with the best available visualization in the shortest amount of time.”
