Community Health Network implements temporary visitor restrictions at Indianapolis hospitals

For release on March 09, 2016

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Due to increased flu activity in Marion County, Community Health Network will implement temporary visitor restrictions at its Indianapolis hospitals.

The temporary visitor policy goes into effect Friday, March 11, at Community Hospitals North, East, South, Westview and Community Heart and Vascular Hospital. The restrictions were requested by Marion County Public Health Department Director Virginia A. Caine, M.D.

Community Health Network is working closely with the Marion County Public Health Department and the Indianapolis Coalition for Patient Safety. Community, along with other Indianapolis hospital systems that are part of the coalition, has agreed to implement Tier One of the coalition’s Patient Visitation Policy, which is the least restrictive.

The following restrictions will be implemented at Community:

  • No visitors with flu-like illness, fever or cough
  • No visitors under age 18
  • No visitors other than patient’s immediate family, partner, significant other or spiritual counselor

The visitor restrictions will remain in place until Dr. Caine and the coalition determine they should be lifted based on local flu activity. Implementing the temporary visitor restrictions will help the hospitals maintain a healthy environment. All visitors at Community hospitals are encouraged to be vigilant about hand washing and covering coughs.
